I wasn't quite sure what to expect from Shopgirl, although I know my mom and E liked it, so that was a good sign. It was also a good sign that I'm predisposed to like anything Steve Martin does -- how can you not? He's such a talented guy in so many fields!I was not disappointed. That's not to say that it's an enduring work of classic literature, but it's entertaining, with two and a half well-drawn characters, stumbling through life, somewhat but not entirely directionless, trying to make human connections along the way.
And sometimes you just need something quick; a novella is perfect.
