Our sunny Wisconsin Saturday started with a quick run for K and I. Let me be clear: I'm using "quick" to mean "brief" and not "speedy." Except even that's not true. It actually started with us failing to get out of bed for 45 minutes after the alarm went off. But K was so enjoying the heavy covers!
Anyway, post-run we headed over to the main house for a delicious
breakfast of coffee, orange-mango juice, baked veggie omelet, and
oatmeal-coconut cake. Every bite was delicious!
It
turns out that there isn't a ton to do in and around Lodi, Wisconsin, so
we all latched on like pit bulls to the main cultural attraction within
an hour's drive:
Taliesin.
The
iconic Frank Lloyd Wright design is a few towns over, outside of Spring
Green, but we piled in the cars and trekked west for some fresh air and
architectural discussion. Unfortunately, since we hadn't really
planned ahead too well, the tours of the house itself were all booked
up. Instead, we toured what they called "The Studio," which is actually
still a functional school of architecture - degree-granting and
everything. But as T pointed out, it's also kind of a weird, cultish
place, where all the students are piously devoted to the master. It's a
little strange.
But strange or not, the man had a gift.
The studio from the outside. The skylights provide lots of natural light for the artists.
The theater.
The Romeo and Juliet water tower.
This led to a discussion of (1) why people use Romeo and Juliet as shorthand for true lovers, when they just die at the end, and (2) whether there is any other pair in literature as famous as those two.
The entrance to the theater.
Lots of right angles.
Apparently in Welsh, LL is a letter.
The main entry.
After our tour, we headed back to the B&B to get ready for the wedding. K and I partied like rock stars in our room while we did - spraying champagne all over, swinging from the light fixtures, breaking furniture, snorting coke, etc. Generally having a grand time!
Just kidding. There was no coke. Otherwise it's all true.
Then off we went to the wedding. Our GPS got us there, but I don't think it took the shortest route; it was scenic though! The setting for the wedding was a barn, which appears to have been converted into an event space for more than just this one night. Know how I know? It was air conditioned. That was clutch, because it was uncomfortably warm in the summer afternoon sunshine. Then, the reception.
The lovely setting
P, showing off pictures of his new cabin
I feel like this picture says a lot...
Cousin C, looking more the way a blushing bride should look
Cousin A, doing her sisterly duty
Cousin M, doing his brotherly duty
The whole gang
Proud parents
A and M
The moment we've all been waiting for!
A moment when (almost) no one was looking
J, D, and Dad
The setting
A and M, stealing the show
And last but certainly not least, bed!
