2021 Goals -- March Recap

Despite my many other failings regarding blogging this month, I was fairly successful vis a vis my goals!  Here's the recap:

1. Laying down grass seed - fail.  However, we did buy the grass seed.  The only reason I haven't put it down yet is that we're still supposed to get some below-freezing temps, so I'm waiting until things are reliably warmer before I put it down.

2. I have amended the soil in my garden beds, at least to the degree that they don't already have over-wintering plants growing in them.  I even planted some of my cooler-weather plants, and started the seeds for my warm-weather guys.

3. Planning the gardens - done!

4. I did clean out as many of the leaves as I could from the annual beds.  I was a little late for the pruning, as many of those plants have already started their spring growth.

As for the spring cleaning, that didn't happen.  But I'm still hoping.  Spring isn't over yet, after all!

What I'm Reading Now -- Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers

Remember back when I used to blog?  It's a faint memory for me, but I can pull it up if I try hard.  Anyway, K convinced me it was a good idea to do a 2021 reading challenge. I'm still dubious on the likelihood of success, but I am on to my fourth book (which some might as interpret as being "on schedule").  This selection is Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers

Perhaps even more shocking than the fact that I am on schedule is the fact that this is the first Mary Roach book to cross my eyeballs.  Can you believe it?

Goals 2021 -- March Edition

I love my house and the space around it.  The yard, the garden, the whole bit.  But I have to admit, every fall there is a sense of relief when cutting the grass is no longer one of the chores, or when I can just ignore the gardens for several months.  "Who cares if it hasn't rained?  There's nothing growing!"  It's nice to have a bit of a break.

But then, it's also nice to start it all over.  Spring is a time of so many projects, spring cleaning only being the most well known.

1. Those spots in the yard where the grass is torn up because the Amazon guy decided it would be better to drive around the car that was parked in the driveway turnaround than to back out the way he had come in?  That needs grass seed.

2. All those seeds that need planting sooner than I ever get around to it?  I'll try to get them in on time this year.  In fairness, that probably is not until April for most, but I need to add my amendments to my garden soil and get it all ready to go.

3. I also have the fun of laying out my garden. I look at last year's plan, see what I have this year, what a good rotation is, and map out the whole thing.  "You can't plant x behind y, but y needs to be in one of the spots that gets the most sun, and y can't be near z...."  It's like a puzzle that way!

4. Let's not forget about the landscaping either.  Those beds have to be cleaned out, last year's growth pruned back, and everything made ready for the return of the perennials.  (Aside: why does anyone plant anything other than perennials for landscaping?)

Maybe I'll even do a little of that old indoors standby, the spring cleaning.

How, you might ask, is this Adding a Little Fun?  Well, four ways.  First, just because I actually do enjoy these things.  Second, because I get to be outside in what will hopefully be beautiful spring weather.  Third, because I get to catch up on my podcasts, which I always enjoy.  And last but certainly not least, I get to use my new tractor-wagon combo!

2021 Goals -- February Recap

February's goal was mostly a success.  Really, except for the last few days, I'd say I did a pretty good job overall.  I worked during the day, then put it away at night.

I don't have a great excuse for the last couple of days other than general distraction during the day which led to a lack of productivity, and then panic in the evening about how little I had gotten done.  And of course, then the consequent multi-tasking.  Many reasons that this could be the case, which I won't go into, but suffice it to say hopefully with a little focused effort I can get back on track.

(You may also notice that I am late publishing this.  What does that tell you about my focus and productivity?)
